Take the seventeen mile tour of the Pebble Beach area and you will run across the Old Point Pinos Lighthouse. It is situated along the fairway of one of the holes of the golf course. It is still in operation and is the oldest active lighthouse on the west coast. As you can see from my photo, the Lighthouse doesn't look so hot these days, but is cited as an excellent example of the first 16 lighthouses built on the California coast.
The lighthouse was first lit in 1855 and wasn't automated until 1975. The 43 foot tall tower houses an original third order fresnel lens that is still in use.
The information I have researched says that the Lighthouse is open year round on the weekends from 1pm - 4pm. We were there on a weekday and place was deserted. I couldn't tell if you could get in.
The National Park Service Website says the lighthouse was run by women keepers for over 25 years. The Lighthouse is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and leased to the City of Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.
Don't call the phone number I used to have listed here as it is wrong.

Shot from the National Parks Service Website. Obviously, it's seen better days.
