| Built in 1855, this cast iron, screw pile
lighthouse was relocated from Patapsco River in the Chesapeake Bay to the Baltimore Inner
Harbor after 135 years of service. It is the oldest screw pile lighthouse in
Maryland. Now the centerpiece of the Baltimore Maritime Museum, it's no longer
operational. It originally had a fourth order Fresnel Lens. Nicely restored and looking real good painted "barn" red, it's a rather unremarkable display and seems kind of out of place in this location. It's a quick visit, and being part of the other displays makes it well worth the price of admission. If you're planning on passing through Baltimore, make a stop and see the Lighthouse and the Lightship Chesapeake. |
